If you want to try and play a new structure while playing internet poker you should look at playing heads-up poker tournaments. These tournaments have grown in popularity and thousands of poker players everyday play them on Poker Stars. This is the best poker room to join if you want to play heads-up tournaments as they have them starting every couple of minutes. You can play heads-up tournaments with regular blinds which are every ten minutes or with turbo blinds which are every five minutes. If you’re new to heads-up tournaments then I would suggest playing in heads-up tournaments with a regular blind structure as it’s less hectic and gives you more playing time.

The strategy that works best when you’re playing heads-up Texas Holdem is to quickly establish being the aggressor on the table and don’t allow your opponent to do so. Any two cards can win any pot in heads-up poker so you don’t need to play your cards as much as you play your opponent. Right from the beginning of the match you need to begin watching how your opponent bets and pick up on any patterns you can find. Sometimes poker players will always follow a raise up with a bet and if you catch onto small things like this you can trap and bluff your opponents easily.

Since you aren’t always going to be getting cards in heads-up matches on Full Tilt Poker you need to be willing a lot preflop so that you give your opponent a false impression of strength. By raising the pot preflop they may assume you have a pretty good starting hand so if the flop comes out with high cards then you can follow up your raise with a bet. Often the other player will fold if you make the bet big enough and often a good bet size if the size of the pot.

When you do have a hand you need to try and slow play your opponent into betting until the river which at that point you obviously need to bet. You will also need to keep looking for hands that could beat yours and if any appear then you need to make a small bet to see where you stand. There is no point trying to slow play your opponent to find out that they outdrew you because you didn’t make any feeler bet.

Heads up poker on Full Tilt is a lot faster then your typical full table game so you need to pay close attention to the game and not have any distractions. You also don’t win as much money in these poker tournaments, but that’s because you only need to beat one player. If you begin getting good at playing heads-up tournaments and you’re winning money then you should consider playing in tournaments with 4+ players as they pay more. The tournaments can start with as little as 4 players and there always needs to be an even amount so that everyone has a heads-up player to play in the first round. If you win you move on and if you lose then you’re out of the tournament.

Check out Poker After Dark if you get a chance, anywhere on the Internet or television. I recently saw a cool little hand that ended up being between Sammy Farha and Phil Ivey (who else?)

First, these specifically for television games like Poker After Dark bring in such a different mood than watching a tournament such as the World Series of Poker. It’s a cash game, there’s more chatter and seemingly looser, more casual play.

After the hidden cards come around a few back and forth bets are placed, Farha, Ivey, Phil Hellmuth and Mike Matusow remain in the game. Farha has 5, 7 spades. Ivey has 6 diamonds and 6 spades, Hellmuth with King, 10 and Matusow has Ace, 9.

There’s almost so much chatter going back and forth right now, you can’t even hear the chip stacks being moved around. Of course, Phil Ivey is dead silent.

The flop comes up – 6 clubs, 8 spades, 9 spades. Time for some fireworks.

Ivey of PokerStars stares down the flop through his set of sixes and makes a move. Farha raises back with his made straight, one off from a straight flush – not knowing obviously that Ivey holds the block card there.

Hellmuth drops out. Matusow raises (I wouldn’t have) with top pair. Ivey re-raises and quickly goes back to putting his head in his hand. This brings Farha all-in, to which Matusow promptly back away from. Ivey calls and they work something out mathematically about who would owe whom what depending on the outcome.

Ivey finally speaks and remarks about how nervous Farha looks, even after the all-in hands are revealed.

The next two cards are queens to give Ivey the come-from-behind victory. Pot wasn’t huge, and Ivey’s face never wavers, but you can just feel the smirk under his breath there.

Almost in unison, Farha and the great poker star Hellmuth both say they never beat Ivey in a cash game. Ivey makes a fairly humorous comment as he takes the chip lead away from Farha. But he does it with such a straight face, and just waits and watches the response of his competitors that you wonder if he’s just kidding or even has a purpose behind these off-the-cuff comments, like he’s always on the job.

Whichever it is, there’s no doubt Ivey’s one of the greatest to ever play the game and definitely the greatest alive today.

The Security Measures Used by Online Poker Rooms and Casinos

Most poker players who have never tried online poker always think that online games are unfair. There are so many misunderstandings and false information floating around, that new players seem to be scared to try signing up at online sites. However, the truth is that poker sites are honest and fair in their dealings. They do not cheat their players and they also ensure that there are no players who undertake any type of cheating on their site. Given below are a few reasons why these sites do not cheat and a few measures that they take to ensure the security of their players:

Reputation

Online poker sites are there to make a profit and their profit is at stake if their reputation is lost due to some reason. These sites cannot take any risks which might harm their reputation since it doesn’t really take very long for news to spread in the online poker community. For this reason, they are always careful to ensure that the play is always fair on their site.

Fighting Collusion

One of the biggest ways in poker cheats, even at land based casinos, is by collusion. Two or more players at the table might join hands and share the information about their cards with each other. This might even happen at online casinos where the players might share the information through phone or chat. However, you should know that most sites today have rules to fight against this. Players who have the same IP cannot actually play at the same table.

Betting Patterns

All poker rooms make use of software to watch the pattern of the players as far as betting is concerned. The software which is used is highly sophisticated and it will instantly be able to detect when players are playing as a group or when collusion takes place. This makes it not just difficult, but actually impossible for the players to cheat online. The history, cash out requests and all the other details are tracked by the software. Manual checks are also in place and every site has a representative who keeps his/her eyes open for chip dumping, inconsistent player betting or any other type of illegal behavior. This makes it impossible for the players to cash out their winnings even if they have managed to cheat at the table.

There are quite a lot of other security measures too which are used by online pokercheats.co sites to detect cheating. However, some of these are not made public for reasons of secrecy. The purpose here is to not reveal all of the security measures used by sites so that cheating players do not try and find a way around it. Poker sites are actually concerned about the security of their players as much as they are concerned about their own profits. Most of the methods used by these sites for security are sufficient and they ensure that their players are protected in every possible way.

When thinking of casinos, gambling, or card games, BlackjackRat.com is often one of the first names to come to mind for many people. Yet this was not always the case. Many factors were involved in raising this game from relative obscurity to becoming almost a household term around the world.

It is unknown where this game actually originated, but the oldest known reference to it is found in the work of Miguel de Cervantes, a 17th century Spanish writer most famous for his literary classic Don Quixote. At that time the game was known only as Twenty One, and with very basic rules. Each card was worth its face value, with aces being worth either 1 or 11. The object was to get a value as close to 21 as possible without going over. At the time, the game was played with a Spanish deck whose cards numbered 2 through 12 and did not include the values 8, 9, or 10. All face cards except for aces were also excluded from this deck.

Later references to and evolutions of this game were later found in various European texts, mainly in France and Spain, but it still did not achieve wide popularity for quite some time. In fact, when it was first introduced to casinos in the United States, establishments had to offer bonuses to convince people to play it. The most common of these was the promise of a 10 to 1 payout to anyone who achieved a value of exactly 21 using the ace of spades (counted as 11 points) and a black jack (worth 10 points). Although the drastically increased payout soon was abolished as the game increased in popularity, the term “blackjack” remained and became the most popular name for the game to be called. Currently, to actually achieve a blackjack is to have exactly 21 points using any ace and any card with a value of 10, meaning a 10 card or face card of any color.

As it increased in popularity, Blackjack also developed many variants and names over the world. Pontoon is a variant played in Malaysia and Australia. It uses a deck with no face cards and has many variations in strategy and penalties. Spanish 21 is another popular version of Blackjack and is played with multiple decks. This version is known to be able to give skilled players a higher advantage because strategies such as counting cards are seen as little threat, allowing highly skilled players to implement more strategies with less chance of being found out. A third popular variation is common mainly in California is called Vegas-Style Blackjack. The most significant difference to this set of rules is that a bust, or going over the limit of 21, does not automatically result in a loss, provided the dealer also busts by a greater number.

Clearly Blackjack has greatly evolved throughout the times, greatly increasing its popularity by enabling it to appeal to many different people with many different preferences. New variants are constantly being invented, and rules changing from casino to casino, so it is unlikely this popularity will wane any time soon.

The BurnPoker cheating scandal made myriad poker news headlines throughout 2008, and at the center of the controversy was Russ Hamilton; the man implicated by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission – UltimateBet’s regulatory body – as the “main person responsible for and benefiting from the multiple cheating incidents.”

Dave Farra, reporter for Raw Vegas, recently came upon Russ Hamilton at a Las Vegas country club. Hamilton was enjoying a leisurely round of golf when approached for an interview with Raw Vegas. Before Farra could get close enough for questioning, Russ Hamilton’s golfing buddy, and professional poker player, Layne Flack, sensed the impending dialogue and made a quick departure.

Hamilton echoed the sentiments of Layne Flack, snatching up his golf bag and making headway towards his vehicle as Farra advanced.

“Are you associated in any way with the UltimateBet.net super user cheating scandal?” Farra asked.

There was no response from Hamilton as he continued a steady pace off the golf course, trailed by two other unidentified individuals.

“Would you like to take this opportunity to apologize to the online poker community?” Farra pursued the interview.

Again, Hamilton ignored the question, seemingly oblivious to the presence of Dave Farra and his camera.

Unwilling to give up on the interview, Farra persisted, “When ‘60 Minutes’ requested an interview, you declined. Would there be guilt associated with that?”

During the UB Poker investigation by KGC in 2008, the super user account ‘Sleeplesss’ was traced back to Russ Hamilton’s home. Speculation of Hamilton having masterminded the entire cheating scandal spread like wildfire, and were later confirmed by KGC.

“Do you have any remorse at all?” Farra asked, continuing to follow Hamilton to his car. Russ began to show signs of irritation, shaking his head on occasion, but did not waver in his evasive path.

“After so many years in the poker community, don’t you feel you owe an answer to the fans and fellow players out there?” The questioning continued. By this time, Hamilton was casually packing his golf clubs into the trunk of his car.

Not a word was uttered by Russ Hamiltonthroughout the ordeal, which lasted about three and a half minutes. Hamilton has not spoken to any reporters, including the refusal of an interview with CBS prime time news authority ’60 Minutes’, since he was alleged to have orchestrated the UltimateBet cheating scandal.

There will no doubt come a time in your Poker Stars playing career that you join a table that is very loose. In order to win at a loose table you need to change a few aspects of your game so that you don’t get burned. A loose table is actually a great type of table to make money on because there is always money flying around the table. The idea is to not let the money excite you and just play your cards as they come. Eventually you’ll hit a monster hand and you’ll be able to reap the rewards of your playing.

The first thing we need to look at is the fact that there are two types of loose tables. The first type of loose table which we’ll call the passive table calls a lot of bets to the river especially straight and flush draws. The second types of loose table which we’ll name aggressive will often raise the pots numerous times before the flop with players making the calls. Both tables on www.PartyPoker.com have differences in how you should play and we’ll look at some winning strategies for both.

At a passive table on www.PokerStars.com the players love going into pots, but they don’t often raise the pots or make re-raises. They enjoy smaller pots, but remain very loose at the limits they play. In order to counter there aggression you’ll need to be able to throw your chips into the pot sometimes. You may receive callers on draws on this type of table, but don’t let a call scare you unless the draw hits. When you have a hand that you don’t want to lose with on a draw you should make a large enough bet to scare the players out of the pot. These players don’t throw money away so by making a large enough bet you should be able to take pots down when you’re winning them. You’ll also be able to see some cheap flops on this type of table and I recommend going into pots with marginal hands when you can for cheap because you never know what will hit.

At an aggressive table the players will often raise the pot and rarely just make flat-calls. The action usually goes back and forth with re-raises which makes your hand selection premium cards only. You can’t afford to into flops when the pots are being raised and re-raised unless you have premium hands. When you do get a premium hand these tables are great for trapping and making some money off of, you’ll just need to show some patience while you wait for a good hand. When you get small pairs or such hands and you want to raise the pot, make sure you raise it enough that people will fold. A small raise on an aggressive table will either be flat-called by a few people or even re-raised which isn’t good when you’re sitting with low pockets.

Playing at a loose table is very profitable if you can make the needed adjustments to your game. If you can then you should be able to trap the players and double up a couple times in your session. Make sure when you win some chips you don’t change your game any, often players start playing loose like there competition when on a table like this and it costs them money.

The defense for FullTilt Poker et al. recently attempted to have Clonie Gowne’s case dismissed entirely. In response, Gowen’s lawyers amended the complaint, adding two more defendants, seven causes of action and additional information to support her claims.

The internet poker company’s defense team previously filed a motion to have Ms. Gowen’s case thrown out of court in its entirety, or at the least drop specific allegations, remove certain individuals named in the case from the litigation and provide further details to back up the case.

Clonie’s attorneys chose not to oppose the motion for dismissal, but rather to amend the argument. The prosecution has the right to do so without obtaining permission from the court.

Back in 2008, Clonie Gowen filed a suit against Full Tilt Poker, its software developer Tiltware, CEO/CFO Raymond Bitar plus 13 individuals on the Team Full Tilt roster. Ms. Gowen claims the company committed breach of contract in an agreement to pay her 1% of the online poker room’s profits in exchange for her role as a “celebrity representative, promoter and spokesperson” of the Full Tilt brand.

The amendment did not change much of the case itself, except to provide the additional support of her claims, referring specifically to a phone between Gowen and Bitar in February of 2004. Clonie asserts that during this phone, the agreement was made. According to the amendment, negotiations weren’t an issue. Bitar offered the position and Gowen accepted, cut and dry.

Gowen also insists that Bitar did not just propose the offer on Full Tilt’s behalf, but on behalf of the other individuals named in the case.

The new causes of action filed in the amendment are seven claims of misrepresentation, including accounting, negligence, promissory estoppel, declaratory relief, specific performance, right of publicity, and quantum meruit.

Finally, Clonie Gowen added two more defendants in the amendment – Pocket Kings Consulting and Tiltproof. According to the allegations, Tiltproof is the customer support hub of FullTiltPoker.net and renderer of financial services or its companies; while Pocket King Consulting is a subsidiary of Titlware, performing essentially the same services as both Full Tilt and Tiltware.

The defense team has 30 days to file a response to Gowen’s latest action. The options include answering the new claims or filing another request for dismissal. Considering the alleged breach of contract, however, a full dismissal is highly unlikely.
